One roundup a week. Written on Sunday night, posted Monday.

Peak local season, and this is as cheap as it gets here. Corn loses sweetness fast, so buying forty ears to freeze only pays if you blanch and cut them the same evening. I did sixteen ears in about fifty minutes, which gave eight cups of kernels. Against $1.79 for a 12oz bag of frozen, that is roughly $11 of corn for $4 and an hour.
Whether an hour is worth $7 is a question about your week, not about groceries. Some weeks the answer is no and I buy the bag.
$3.79/lb at the discount grocer, $4.29 at the regional chain. It has been above $4 at both since April. Butter freezes for months in its own wrapper inside a bag, so I bought four pounds at the lower price. This is the single most reliable stock-up in my whole log.
For about a year I planned a weekly detour past the reduced meat case. In twelve months I got four genuinely good buys and a lot of thirty-per-cent-off trays of things I would not otherwise cook. The markdowns land at whatever hour the store decides, which was rarely when I could be there.
The honest accounting is that it cost me about twenty extra minutes a week and saved perhaps $30 across the year. Buying the thighs on a real sale, as in the 08/24/2026 roundup, beats it and needs no timing at all.
Renata. I shop for two adults and a teenager, mostly at one regional chain and a discount grocer four miles apart.
I have kept a price book since 2019. That is the only reason any of this is useful.
If I would not have bought it at full price within the month, a discount on it is not a saving. Most of what I skip each week fails that one test.
